Thursday Night Football Betting: HOUSTON TEXANS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (9/22)

PRO FOOTBALL — September 22

(Line: Patriots -1, Total 40.5) – The Patriots must turn to Jacoby Brissett, who was never expected to see any action, and you would have to question whether this young man is ready for the NFL. Many scouts didn’t feel he had a big enough arm, and although we are sure that Bill Belichick is going to prep him as best as he can, there is only so much you can do with a couple of days of practice except give him a limited playbook. And that may be the thing that gives Houston an edge, in the respect that they have people on board who are very familiar with the Patriots’ system – head coach Bill O’Brien and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. There is a revenge motive as well, as the Texans were embarrassed by a 27-6 score by New England last year, getting only SEVEN first downs in the process. They avenged one humiliation last week against KC (which beat them 30-0 in the playoffs last year). And these Texans are improved on the offensive end; Brock Osweiler seems like a responsible individual at QB; Lamar Miller gives them a #1 option at running back, and rookie Will Fuller (23.4 yds/catch) is finally a proper complement to DeAndre Hopkins. JJ Watt has yet to break out, and Jadeveon Clowney is really starting to impress the coaching staff.
