BASEBALL — September 4

WASHINGTON (Lopez) at N.Y. METS (Lugo)
(Line: Mets -125 / Nats +115, Total 8.5) – Reynaldo Lopez gets the start for Washington, as Max Scherzer gets an extra day of rest. Lopez throws a lot of heat (more than a K per inning in both minors and majors this season), but w=has also walked one batter every two innings. He allowed ten men to reach base in 2-2/3 innings in his last start. Seth Lugo has a 2.55 ERA in three starts and also just one homer allowed in 34 innings. In other words, he doesn’t give up the big play, while Lopez’s lack of control helps promote big innings. Remember that the Nats have a comfortable lead in the NL East (9.5 games), while the Mets are furiously chasing the second wild card spot.
