Baseball Betting: SEATTLE MARINERS at CHICAGO CUBS (7/31)

BASEBALL — July 31

SEATTLE (Hernandez) vs CHI. CUBS (Matusz)
(Line: Cubs -120 / Mariners +100, Total 8.5) – The Cubs are going with Brian Matusz, who has not started a big league game since 2012. Joe Maddon wants to play around with a six-man rotation to keep his pitchers fresh for the playoffs. Can this journeyman, who has been let go by both Baltimore and Atlanta, come with a strong effort? Listen, the Cubs have played 30 of their 50 home games under the total, but we are not all that confident about Felix Hernandez at the moment. The former Cy Young winner has been ineffective since coming off the DL (strained calf), allowing nine runs and 19 hits (including a monster home run to an opposing pitcher – Francisco Liriano) in his last 12-2/3 innings. His strikeout-walk ratio is just 2-to-1, which is his worst ever, as is his K rate and FIP. He admits to having problems with his mechanics, and has lost a lot of velocity. His last three starts have sailed “over” the total, and Seattle options in the bullpen, which have contributed to two double-digit run totals in the last three games, are not appetizing.
