College Basketball Odds: NIT Title – VALPARAISO CRUSADERS vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON COLONIALS (3/31)

COLLEGE BASKETBALL — March 31

NIT Championship @ New York
VALPARAISO vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON

(America’s Bookie Line: Valpo -2.5, Total 134) — In this matchup between squads who felt they may have been snubbed by the NCAA Selection Committee but have managed to make the most of it anyway, we’ll side with Valpo, which has more defensive wherewithal – enough, in fact, to hold a couple of go-go WCC entries, BYU and Saint Mary’s, below 40% shooting in the last couple of games. They have enough scoring balance, a hot hand in Alec Peters (15 points in last after 25 ppg in previous eight) and the dominant inside presence on defense in Vashil Fernandez, who has blocked more shots than anyone in the nation. As a team, the Crusaders have limited opponents to just 38%, so none of this is a surprise. And in that department, they have a decisive edge over GW (44% FG’s allowed), who did flummox San Diego State in their last outing, but considering that the Aztecs have been known to blow way cold, this isn’t necessarily so revealing.
