Thursday Night NFL Betting: TENNESSEE TITANS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (11/19)

PRO FOOTBALL — November 19

TENNESSEE at JACKSONVILLE
(America’s Bookie Line: Jaguars -3, Total 42.5) — Both of these teams still have some hope in the AFC South race, which ramps up the level of importance. Jacksonville certainly has the more balanced attack, with a genuine go-to running back in TJ Yeldon, and might be able to hold Tennessee’s ground attack in check with the NFL’s best run defense, at least statistically (allowing just 3.3 ypc). But we are somewhat impressed with Marcus Mariota, who is not only more accurate than counterpart Blake Bortles (65%-55%), and averages a robust eight yards an attempt, but also is unusual for a rookie in that he has thrown ten TD passes on the road without an interception. The Titans are better in the red zone when it comes to scoring touchdowns (61.5%-48.1%) and they are still eighth bets in the league in yards allowed per drive. The Jags have been too generous on third down, permitting 46.5% success. So maybe the maturing Mariota, who has been sacked only twice in the last two games (correcting a BIG problem with the since-departed Ken Whisenhunt), to take advantage. And you can always count on the veteran defensive guru Dick LeBeau to come up with a scheme or two that might force Bortles closer to a mistake. Mike Mularkey gets a little revenge on the team that gave him the ax rather surreptitiously three years ago.
