Baseball Betting: ATLANTA BRAVES at SAN DIEGO PADRES (8/18)

BASEBALL — August 18

ATLANTA (Wisler) at SAN DIEGO (Shields)
(America’s Bookie Line: Padres -180 / Braves +160, Total 7) — Shields has not necessarily taken a nose dive for the Padres, but the team has lost eleven of his last 13 starts. Are the Braves any bargain on the road? Well, they have lost 16 of 18 as the visitor, with twelve losses by more than a run, so we would say not. It is true that Atlanta does not posses a lot of power, with just 74 homers, and that is, of course, one of the things Shields has always been vulnerable to (giving up 24 so far). But Shields is also one of the bottom fifteen starters in the majors when it comes to opponents’ OPS. When it gets to the sixth through ninth innings, we are not confident about Atlanta’s ability to keep runs off the board, with their horrible 4.89 bullpen ERA. Wisest thing here is to go with the total.
