BASEBALL — July 19

BOSTON (Rodriguez) at L.A. ANGELS (Santiago)
(America’s Bookie Line: Angeles -120 / Red Sox +100, Total 8) — Three runs allowed in 27 innings over his last four starts. Those are the numbers surrounding Hector Santiago, who was a recent addition to the American League All-Star team and has quickly become a mainstay of the Angels’ staff. Seven hits without a run in the last two games – that represents Boston’s accomplishments during this series in Anaheim thus far. And the Red Sox have only advanced one runner as far as third base. This does not seem to have the makings of an offensive explosion, and Santiago is well rested. Boston’s only hope would be that he is out of his rhythm, with extra time off after the break. The Red Sox have their surprising rookie on the mound on Sunday night; Eduardo Rodriguez has a 3-0 record with a 0.69 ERA on the road, and of course many people know that he was a hot prospect when he was picked up by the Red Sox in a trade. Certainly the numbers catch up to rookies sooner or later, although we will count on Rodriguez keeping his team in the fray for a while. This looks like a decent parlay opportunity for us, because Santiago seems reasonably priced.
