College Basketball Betting: NCAA TITLE – DUKE BLUE DEVILS vs. WISCONSIN BADGERS @ Indianapolis (4/4)

DUKE vs. WISCONSIN

(GetThatBet Line: Wisconsin -1, Total 140) — What’s kind of scary about the Duke argument is the fact that the Blue Devils really appear to have become a defensive force; the first three opponents they faced in this tournament all shot 36% or below, and they did a great job of snuffing out Gonzaga, which had a higher percentage than anybody, as well as Michigan State. This gives you the indication that they might have more success then before against this Wisconsin offense, which they controlled rather well the first time around (December 3) in the 80-70 victory. But the Badgers did not have forward Sam Dekker at full strength there, and this could be a different story. Wisconsin should be able to put Jahlil Okafor in a little difficulty if they can get him to come out on somebody like Frank Kaminsky, who is 41% accurate from the arc. With Dekker, that gives them two guys on the front line who can shoot it from downtown, and that in turn may give their guards, who know how to post up, some matchup advantages.

The question as to what to do about Duke’s offense, which shot 65% in the first meeting, is another deal altogether. Wisconsin has not had a great run defensively of late; in fact, four of their last six opponents have shot 48% or better. So they have been banking on having better execution, fewer mistakes and solid defensive rebounding, so as to limit the second chances of opponents. The way they operated against Kentucky the other night, taking the nation’s best defense (35% allowed, 27% from three) and hitting 48%, with 41% from downtown, was impressive. We do pay a lot of lip service to the importance of having “veteran leadership” in these big games. Well, here it is. Wisconsin has upperclassmen and four starters back from last year’s Final Four team. Duke has three freshman starters. Let’s cast a vote for experience on the floor.
