College Football Betting: Foster Farms Bowl – MARYLAND TERRAPINS vs. STANFORD CARDINAL (12/30)

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — December 30

Foster Farms Bowl @ Santa Clara, CA
MARYLAND vs. STANFORD

(GetThatBet Line: Stanford -14, Total 47) — Stanford’s attitude here might be key. The Cardinal have played in major bowl games in each of the last four seasons, so this might be something of a comedown. But they are also playing close to home. One thing they ought to do consistently is play defense, as we should mention that they rank second in points alowed (just 16 per game) and fifth in yards allowed (287 per contest). And they stop the run (3.2 ypc), which they might not even need, as Maryland has gotten only one 100-yard game out of a running back. And the Terrapins are at a deficit at quarterback, as CJ Brown (just 53% completions) doesn’t really compare favorably with Kevin Hogan (65%). The good news for Maryland is that Stefon Diggs is back from a lacerated kidney, and the bad news for Stanford is that Ty Montgomery (shulder injury) is not available. But without Montgomery, who excels not just as a receiver but as a kick returner as well, they scored back-to-back 21-point wins on the road against Cal and UCLA. Only two opponents exceeded 20 points against this team, so we don’t expect a Maryland eruption. The Terps did fold against much of its class opposition (52-24 to Ohio State, 37-15 to Michigan State, 52-7 to Wisconsin), so small recommendation for the “home” team.
