Basketball Betting Free Pick: OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER at PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS (10/29)

PRO BASKETBALL — October 29

OKLAHOMA CITY at PORTLAND
(GetThatBet Line: Blazers -9 , Total: 198) — For the Thunder, it’s not so much a matter of them having to go without MVP Kevin Durant for a while. They also have numerous others on the injured list, including guards Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb and Anthony Morrow, and rookie big man Mitch McGary. So in other words, a team that had issues with depth to begin with now has a lot less of it, and that is something that evens the playing field a bit, because that was the big knock on Portland, if you recall. The Blazers’ five starters are always set to go 40-44 minutes anyway, and that will put a lot of pressure on Scott Brooks to come up with combinations to keep his team in the game. Losing Jackson and Lamb means fewer scoring alternatives for opponents to have to defend against, which means more of a one-man show for Russell Westbrook, who can get out of control. This will be an easier team to defend, perhaps easier than at any point in Brooks’ tenure. And while OKC has admitted that it will have to rely on defense to make it through the trying time without Durant, keep in mind that Portland was the second most efficient offensive club in the league last season. So while we expect the pace to slow a bit, we also expect the Blazers to have more stops.
